Senator Clinton Thanks Long Island REALTORS
for Keeping Economy Going
March 27, 2006 - West Babylon, NY -
On Thursday, March 23, 2006, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.,
addressed Long Island Realtors® gathered at the Huntington Hilton
in Melville. The two primary issues touched upon were keeping banks
out of real estate and the current proposal to try and eliminate
the home mortgage interest deduction.
Clinton said, “At the core of the American Dream is homeownership.” Noting
the importance that housing plays in the national economy, she said “I
wanted to come to thank the Realtor® community for helping so many
people realize their dream; to thank you for keeping the economy going,
and to thank you for providing services that are absolutely essential
to all of our communities.” To that statement Clinton received
resounding applause.
Senator Clinton is the co-sponsor of the Community Choice Real Estate
Act, (S.98) which would keep banks out of real estate. Clinton, together
with the Realtor community feel that allowing banks into real estate
is just not fair to the general public considering the serious competitive
advantage that they enjoy due to their federal charters.
LIBOR President, Gilbert Picard said that “Senator Clinton’s
grasp of the issues that affect our area are in sync with the needs
and concerns of all Long Islanders.” Picard further notes that “It
was a great speech from a formidable presidential candidate who is
astute and bright. Senator Clinton crystallizes the issues and deals
with the solutions and it was a personal privilege to introduce her
to our association members.”
